Every person is a bag of insecurities

Have you ever looked at a person and thought that he has it all- money, good looks, intelligence and health and wondered what could he be afraid of? I have met and observed these people and realized that even though someone is “perfect” mostly they never think they are.

We all want to be a perfect circle but we are never satisfied with what we have. We always find gaps in the circle and are pushing to make the edges meet. In the meanwhile, we are constantly troubled that someone might notice the gap and think low of us.

When you wonder what your Mango class friends think of your Forever21 wardrobe. Or what your colleagues think about you when you use the knife with the wrong hand. What your partner might think when he finds out you used to be a loser in school.

Insecurity is apparent in the fundamentals of our society. Love, for instance, is a beautiful feeling but marriage? Love is an experience but why do we feel the need to supplement it with a declaration in public to be together? Furthermore, in a monogamous relationship. We look down upon cheating to perpetuate loyalty and reliability of people.

Imagine why nations are built, to create a governable area populated by people who have same cultures and beliefs. But why is there patriotism? The need to express faithfulness to this area? We made this passionate feeling of patriotism popular to ensure that we have someone taking care of our interests happily. Insecurity is apparent in humans collectively and individually.

How about we try to be a person who laughs off when someone makes a mistake? And laugh when you make one too. How about you accept people the way they are and give them the benefit of doubt that they will succeed if not now then later? Or let people make choices which make them happy and do not scare them with what you will think about it? It could be as simple as help an older woman withdraw cash from an ATM or buy a ticket at the station. To help them relax and not be very conscious of themselves.

This is a personality trait which takes a lot of effort to seep into your system but the more you forgive, the more happiness there will be. Atleast for yourself.

Next time you see someone nervous and conscious maybe you could pass on a smile? Like you, he is also a bag of insecurities.

You shout it out
But I can’t hear a word you say
I’m talking loud not saying much
I’m criticized but all your bullets ricochet
You shoot me down, but I get up

Lyrics- Titanium by David Guetta and Sia
